Full-time Chef

at Saffrons in Brighton and Hove

Salary: £38,000 to £42,000, plus seasonal bonus opportunities
Working Days/Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Duties :
- As the head chef in a restaurant or culinary establishment, your role is diverse and crucial to the kitchen's success and the dining experience.
- Key responsibilities include menu creation and updates, considering seasonality, ingredient availability, and customer preferences. You may also design special menus for events or occasions.
- Develop recipes that meet the restaurant's standards for taste, presentation, and cost efficiency, ensuring that recipes are standardized and consistently executed by kitchen staff.
- Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and plating. This involves coordinating with other kitchen staff, organizing work schedules, and ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff, including sous chefs, line cooks, and prep cooks. Provide guidance, instruction, and feedback to ensure all team members perform their duties effectively.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, freshness, and safety. Inspect ingredients, monitor food preparation processes, and enforce hygiene and sanitation protocols to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Control food costs and minimize waste to maximize profitability. Oversee inventory management, order supplies, and monitor portion sizes to optimize cost efficiency without compromising quality.
- Bring creativity and innovation to the kitchen by experimenting with new ingredients, techniques, and culinary trends to keep the menu fresh and exciting for diners.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications Required:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a kitchen setting.
- Contribution to menu development and introduction of innovative kebab offerings.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a kitchen environment, using kitchen terminology.
- Ensure and uphold high standards of taste, presentation, and overall quality in kebab dishes.
- Check and manage the quality of raw ingredients and cooked food before serving to customers.
- Plan and prepare weekly order lists for kitchen and foodstuff requirements.
- Maintain workplace hygiene and health and safety at all times in accordance with regulations.
