Sr. Project Manager Job Purpose:

Provide leadership and direction for major capital projects/programs which are directly associated with a Business Line’s strategic initiative. Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams through activities associated with project development, engineering, procurement, contracting, installation, start-up and commissioning within the framework of approved scope, schedule and budget. Supervise engineering staff where applicable.





Sr. Project Manager Responsibilities:



Provide leadership regarding the planning and execution of major capital projects or technology programs, with values in excess of $100 million, including: technical feasibility evaluations, detailed engineering design, procurement efforts, negotiating, contract development & management, contracting strategy, installation, start-up support and commissioning.

Develop project scopes, budgets and schedules and manage performance against approved versions.

Ensure all project activities are executed in accordance with company and functional policies, procedures and methods.

Establish and manage a project document control system that is consistent with functional methods and procedures.

Review all engineering to ensure compliance with LP’s design standards, industry & professional standards, local, state and federal codes and regulations.

Supervise and manage assigned staff; recruit, train, coach, and evaluate performance.

Conduct benchmarking and competitive research to keep up with best-of-class practices and to assure that our capital implementation methods lead the industry.

Conduct training for engineering and other personnel in the areas of Project Management, Engineering, and Leadership.

Participate as a sponsor or team member in leading functional process improvement within the company.

Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects and programs managed.

Maintain Engineering records according to engineering procedures and corporate Records Retention Guidelines.

Work closely with other Corporate Functions including Supply Management, Audit, Financial Services, Environmental Services and Information Technology to assure conformance with corporate policy

Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to technology and capital effectiveness

Perform other duties as necessary



QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills, knowledge, abilities:



Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement professional Project Management practices, programs and tools.

Possess excellent working knowledge of computer applications including; word processing, financial management systems and project scheduling software (MS Word, Excel & Project).

Demonstrated knowledge and ability in effective management and supervisory practices.

Knowledge of building products industry, equipment, and processes.

The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems

The ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

The ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.

The ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.

The ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.

An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.

The ability to communicate effectively – both verbally and written.

A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning

The ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

Education:



BS/MS in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field.

Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable

(BS equivalency: 6-8 years discipline experience, MS equivalency: 4-6 years engineering management experience)





Experience:



Minimum of 15 years experience as a practicing professional (5 associated with major project work) in one or more of the following fields; engineering, capital project management, manufacturing, business process development, auditing,

Demonstrated experience in delivering large, complex engineering projects through successful completion.

Demonstrated experience in leading large/complex cross functional capital project teams.

Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:



This position works in both an office environment and in a manufacturing environment.

Moderate to heavy travel requiring a flexible schedule is required.
